I am SO excited to finally blog this amazing elopement for Andrea and Thorsten. This lovely couple reside in Germany and planned a trip out to Vancouver, for the summer of 2015, where they spontaneously decided to elope just the two of them while on vacation. We scheduled a Skype date and it was a perfect fit! I was one lucky planner 😉
How they met: Andrea and Thorsten love dancing. They ended up in the same dance class and soon danced every dance together. There first dance as husband and wife was so beautiful!
How she asked: Thorsten travels a lot for work. One afternoon while out with some business colleagues for lunch he received an email from Andrea. Andrea shared the idea of getting married while they were on vacation in Vancouver. Thorsten replied with a YES! He returned from his trip and soon they were planning the big day with me!
The planning: The couple’s wish list: West Coast wedding, surrounded by mountains and water, to incorporate their favourite colours; pink and blue, personalized details of their love story and have the planner plan all aspects including travel and accommodation. Working with Andrea and Thorsten was a dream come true but it did come with challenges such as time differences, limited time frame, language barriers and personalizing a wedding for a couple I barely knew. Andrea and Thorsten lead very busy lives so finding someone to plan on their behalf and to witness their wedding was very important. We had weekly Skype meetings where we chatted about vendors and watching IPhone videos of each location I visited so they could visualize the time of day they would be getting married at. Other challenges were finding an ideal venue for two people that was still intimate, that served a Vegetarian menu and wouldn’t be too far away from their hotel at the end of the night. We chose Ron Brasford Park on Granville Island and the Wine Room in Yew Restaurant located inside The Four Seasons Hotel, Vancouver. It turned out perfectly and exactly what they were looking for!
We worked together to build a beautiful colour palette, a vision that reflected their love story and personalities and hired a team that was equally as passionate as they were about the day.
The big day: On the morning of the wedding, Andrea and Thorsten woke up and enjoyed room service and some time to reflect on the day before the hair and makeup team and photographers arrived. Andrea and Thorsten fell in love with the idea of doing a first look (regardless of eloping) and therefore got ready in separate rooms and met at Granville Island where Thorsten turned around just as Andrea was walking down the aisle. To make the day just that much more special we had a custom ceremony with German vows, a balloon release with a favourite poem of the couple and a musician on hand playing the couple’s song as they were pronounced as husband and wife. We chose Ron Brasford Park as it reminded the couple of the harbour they would always take evening strolls along and it was surrounded by water and greenery. The couple first met in dance class so the first dance was a tradition we were not going to forget. Following the ceremony, the couple walked along the boardwalk to share an intimate moment and their first dance.
After a few photos the couple were then whisked off for a private helicopter tour of the mountains and couple photos “on top of the world”. Andrea and Thorsten said it was the highlight of the day and was the ultimate West Coast element they were looking for. There was also snow!
When the couple arrived for their private dinner for two at Yew Restaurant they were welcomed into the Wine Room for a five-course chef inspired meal complimented with wine pairings. For dessert the pastry chef at Four Seasons created a cake for them similar to their “weekend cake”. Every Friday the couple would bake a cake to enjoy over the weekend so it made for a personalized touch. It was a fun surprise for them!
What made this wedding unique was the custom ceremony incorporating German vows and the couple’s favourite poems, the bouquet was made with fabric to last forever with a brooch for something old and borrowed and their blue colour palette for her something blue. No detail went unnoticed! Thank you Andrea and Thorsten for a highlight of my wedding planning career. Your big day was truly beautiful and one of a kind!
Enjoy some of my favourites 🙂
