A love story that began with $2 Jager shots at the bar over twelve years ago. On the wedding day, the speeches were coming to a close and Aaron got up to speak. He told this story of how the couple met, like it was yesterday. Jasmine and Aaron were in their 3rd year of university and that night (at the bar) Aaron really wanted to start up the conversation, but how? The DJ helped him out by announcing $2 Jagers at the bar. Aaron looked at Jasmine and offered to buy her a drink. The rest is history.
How he asked:
Aaron’s office is connected to a large patio with an incredible view overlooking all of Vancouver (that perfect proposal backdrop). He had asked Jasmine to meet him at work one night and there he popped the question. She said YES! Waiting for the couple back at their apartment, were all their close family and friends to celebrate their recent engagement! He did good!
How they wed:
Jasmine and I first met over coffee at Beaucoup Bakery and I could not wait to begin coordinating this beautiful day. Her vision of exchanging vows in the same spot she said yes with long tables, globe lights above, a gorgeous west coast view on fireworks night was a wedding I could not wait to assist with! The couple not only had a cute love story but wanted to incorporate what they could from it into their big day. The ceremony was set with a lushious greenery arch with white folding chairs for all friends and family. Jasmine’s brother married the couple with a personalized ceremony filled with intimate vows and readings.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited downstairs to another patio where canapes, cocktails and The Collective You was waiting. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, my team along with vendors, flipped the ceremony space into a u-shaped long table reception. The tables were draped with white linens, rose gold votives, bud vases with delicate florals and single Italian Ruscus stems on the individual napkins. Guests enjoyed a family style meal and love filled speeches. Just as the fireworks began, the couple shared their first dance with everyone circled around them. It was one of those magical moments and the love they have for each other was more evident than ever.
It was a rainy weekend afternoon, I was sitting in Starbucks with my vanilla latte waiting for my bride, Chrissie. She walked in and it was an instant connection. She was that bride that you wanted to work with! Not only for her vision but because of her love story and her sweetheart personality. We chatted for over an hour but it felt like seconds.
How they met:
Chrissie and Ryan met on EHarmony. Although it wasn’t necassarily love at first sight, he was everything that she was looking for.
How he asked:
Maui holds a special place in Chrissie and Ryan’s heart. Soon after dating they traveled there and it quickly became a tradition. In the summer of 2015, Ryan popped the question on the beach and Chrissie said YES!
How they got Maui’d:
Chrissie and Ryan had always planned on eloping back where they first fell in love, on the beaches of Maui. Instead they decided to plan an intimate wedding in Vancouver to ensure all loved ones could attend. Their vision was small, intimate, warm, casual but still traditional. They wanted to incorporate as much from their love story and Maui as we could here in Vancouver.
I was so excited to share with them, my top venue choice, the Beachhouse Restaurant located on Dundarave Beach in West Vancouver. Their covered patio area was the ideal location for their family style dinner reception to create the intimate atmosphere they had hoped for. We added a colour palette of cream and turquoise with floral accents of orchids, roses and greenery and many candles.
The Wedding Day:
On the wedding day, we changed our ceremony plans from our original front lawn ceremony plan overlooking the ocean. Instead, we decided to break the rules a little bit and make Chrissie’s dreams come true and have the ceremony beachside. The result, stunning! Chrissie and Ryan shared their first look on the pier near Lonsdale Quay followed by photos at Whytecliff Park. Chrissie walked down the aisle to a ceremony musician playing Over the Rainbow on his ukulele on her father’s arm. She wanted to share that special moment with both parents and therefore asked her mother to walk her the remainder of the aisle to Ryan.
Following the ceremony, the guests were invited into the restaurant with canapes and cocktails while the couple finished their last photos on the beach. Dinner was served, speeches were shared and the couple danced their first dance while the sun set.
Words from the couple:
“I cannot say enough about Stephanie and the other girls from Sweetheart Events! It was worth every penny and was the easily the best money we spent in planning our big day! I interviewed several wedding planners from different companies, but when I met Stephanie it was immediately clear that she was exactly the person we wanted!
Stephanie is knowledgeable, energetic, reliable and detail oriented. We hired her for the comprehensive planning package in mid October for our wedding in July. Once we had our budget set, she asked us about our priorities for the big day. With this in mind, she organized our budget and sent us vendors and recommendations for everything from venues, to s’mores dessert caterers. Each month she sent an practical list of tasks to help us stay organized and we met to discuss details. We were guided through what needed to be accomplished each month which made for a fun and manageable process.
Stephanie provided guidance when preparations felt stressful, energy when tasks felt tedious, and expertise when we were just plain lost. She unflinchingly navigated trick family dynamics so that our day remained just that – our day.
Stephanie created an extensive timeline for the day, then gave this information to the people who needed it. She coordinated timing for everything from hair and makeup, to set-up of the ceremony and reception, photographers, cake pick-up, rentals pick up, bar details, and reception clean up. Talking to our officiant the day before the wedding, she remarked that I sounded remarkably calm and collected. I was able to relax because I was confident that Stephanie had taken care of everything.
On the big day, she and her girls we indispensable. The detailed timeline that had been created was now given to the key people. As the bride and groom we knew our main times, but did not have to look at the timeline for anything else. It was so liberating to be able to let Stephanie and her staff take care of everything and just focus on enjoying the day!
When I first met Stephanie, I had told her I was envious of the groom in planning a wedding. I wanted to buy a dress, get my hair and makeup done, and show up for photos and the ceremony, then enjoy the reception with our close family and friends. She helped make this wish a reality.
Stephanie, thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my husband and I the most beautiful day we could imagine, and for helping me be the bride I wanted to be!”
Her name is Megan. His is David. Today is their anniversary!
Now let’s back it up and celebrate how this love story all began. It was a christmas party, their eyes locked and the rest is history they say. Dating for seven and a half years, life was exciting! They had a home together and an adorable pug named Monty. David knew it was time. While they live close to Stanley Park, on a walk to Lost Lagoon, David got down on one knee and asked forever with Megan. She said YES!
Megan and David, hired me as their wedding coordinator to execute their beautiful but simple and casual wedding. Before we even met we had exchanged emails discussing venues and I’m thrilled that my suggestion was the winning venue! The Loft at Earls in Yaletown was the perfect setting for the couple’s ceremony and reception. Megan and David took a moment to do a first look before they welcomed their guests into the loft before exchanging their vows. During cocktail hour, we flipped the room from ceremony to reception while adding in some details to surprise the couple (read their kind words below). Following dinner, the guests enjoyed desserts, card games and cocktails. It was the perfect reflection of our couple!
What an honour to witness the love between these two. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness and laughter!
Words from our couple:
“I….don’t know how I can put into a review how AMAZING Stephanie was. We met with other wedding planners who were very professional to the point where it was hard to feel a connection with them-right off the bat, Stephanie was SO excited to be part of our big day and so engaged with us and finding out what she could do to make our day absolutely perfect. We hired her for day of coordination, but she was SO SO SO much more than that. She was there by email every step of the way to help me navigate through any issue or question that came up-she even connected with my mom to help her with planning the rehearsal dinner. I was incredibly anxious about taking on the burden of wedding planning, but having Stephanie on my side made me feel so at ease and assured that everything was going to get done, nothing was going to be missed, and the day was going to go off without a hitch. And boy, did it ever. If anything went wrong on the day, I had no idea.
Stephanie and her team executed our vision perfectly, and even thought of little touches that I hadn’t thought about. I had really wanted to incorporate garlands on the tables or the aisle, but it was out of our budget. As a surprise, Stephanie and her team tore apart the aisle runners after the ceremony (which would have been discarded anyways) and MADE a garland just for the head table-they even used some of the extra to drape around the seating chart that I had mentioned I was disappointed with how plain it turned out. These are the little touches that makes Stephanie so great at what she does-I didn’t ask for any of those things, I hadn’t even MENTIONED them in months, and she remembered and surprised me with them on the day.
My husband and I felt like we could truly enjoy our wedding day, and our wedding party/family got to enjoy themselves as well and not be worried about taking care of a single thing. On top of it all, Stephanie was just so much fun to work with that being around her instantly put me at ease even if we had a daunting to do list. We also booked the majority of our vendors using Stephanie’s preferred list, and all of them were wonderful and a total fit for us as a couple and our vision for the day. I absolutely recommend everyone hire a day of coordinator-and if you’re in Vancouver, that person should 100% be Stephanie. I’ve been recommending her to anyone I know who has gotten engaged since!”
They say, first comes love, then comes marriage then comes the baby in the baby carriage. Today is Giselle and Brandon’s anniversary and I’m reflecting on their incredible wedding day at Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Kelowna.
How they met:
(from the bride)
Brandon and I both grew up on farms just outside of a small town in Sylvan Lake, AB. We first met on a school bus on our first day of grade 4. We ended up being in the same elementary class. When Brandon took off to school in Red Deer, we remained friends but didn’t really reconnect until we were 21. It all seemed very surreal to be be dating my elementary school bus buddy. Before I knew it I was leaving friends and family behind to be with him in the states. Once we made that big decision it wasn’t long after that we were sitting on our dock at home when he asked me to marry him.
How they wed:
From the moment I first met Giselle and Brandon, I fell in love with them and their wedding vision. Although they wanted a beautiful wedding full of details, what mattered most was the marriage that followed the wedding day. Dream couple goals!
Originally from Alberta, they chose a destination wedding in beautiful Kelowna at Summerhill Pyramid Winery.
“When we started planning the wedding I didn’t have a vision for what I wanted the venue to look like. Our wedding planner communicated so well with all of our vendors and created a beautiful design for our venue. When I saw the decor for the first time I was completely shocked-in the best way possible! “
Vintage Origami and Crocus Florals curated a beautiful room full of luscious peach, cream and blush tone florals and linens, calligraphy quotes and eucalytus garlands cascading to the ground. The favour cookies were baked by the bride and placed inside white boxes next to a blush tone place card on each place setting. We used engagement photos of the couple, favourite song lyrics and poems to line the aisle and created an intimate and cozy atmosphere for our guests.
Favourite details included the first look with her father, the ice cream station and the school bus! It was only fitting that with a love story that began on the school bus that we incorporate that into the day.
“My most memorable moment is walking down the aisle with my dad towards Brandon and feeling as if I was dreaming. I will never forget the smile on his face, the world around us just seemed to completely disappear. A close second would be the speeches because no matter how hard you try not to cry, it’s just going to happen.”
It all began seven years ago, in the hallways of their high school. They met in Grade 10 and two years later graduated as highschool sweethearts. When it came down to popping the question, Ben knew their 7 year anniversary was the right time. That night he asked those 4 little words in Coal Harbour and Kalia said YES!
Kalia and Ben’s Poplar Grove Wedding was years in the making you could say. The couple share many memories in Penticton and chose Poplar Grove Winery for their gorgeous wedding backdrop. I mean those wood elements, the floor to ceiling windows, the jaw dropping backdrop and acres of vineyards are every wedding planner’s dream!
The day began, filled with celebration, as Kalia and her bridal party got glammed up. Ben enjoyed a morning of golf with his groomsmen. Guests began to arrive and shelter themselves from the sun. It was a hot one for sure! The musicians began and Ben escorted his parents down the aisle followed by Kalia on her father’s arm. Poplar Grove’s finest wine was poured as the couple snapped photos and were then welcomed into the tasting room for a long table dinner reception drapped with white linen and luscious floral arrangements. To end the night off, the guests danced outside under a tent and globe lights.
Wishing these two lots of love and many hugs of gratitute for choosing me as their planner.
