Natasha & David | Fraser River Lodge Wedding, Featured on Wedding Chicks

Hi friends! As you may already know, the SHE team is absolutely obsessed with the beauty the Pacific Northwest. Natasha & David celebrated their love at the Fraser River Lodge and all we can say is that it’s truly one of our favorites.

How Their Love Story Began

It wasn’t necessarily “love at first sight” but this one has a great story that proves timing is everything. Natasha and David went to high school together and would bump into each other on occasion in class or through mutual friend outings. They gradutated, went their seperate ways and years later, at a UBC party, Natasha noticed David from across the room. The lightbulb went off and he recoginized her too. They became friends again and soon after began dating long distance as David lived in Alberta.

Natasha soon moved out to Alberta and on a trip out to Ireland, David bought her a Clatter Irish ring while waiting to customize the engagement ring together. After five years of dating, David proposed to Natasha on a beautiful snowy day in January, during a walk along their favourite path with their dogs Maya and Peter.

How They Wed

While living in Alberta, the couple quickly realized they needed someone supporting their vision and executing it perfectly in BC. They hired Stephanie for True to You custom package and full decor and design. Natasha’s vision was blush and ivory, west coast backdrops and romance but still casual, inviting and lots of fun.

Stephanie scoured the warehouses of Niche Event Stylists, Past Pieces, Sitka Studios and Flowerella Event Florals to bring this beautiful vision to life. The reception tables were dressed in white floorlength linens, dove grey chiffon runners and many blush blooms.

To create an intimate but inviting atmosphere, we added additional seating to the tables to allow guests to mix and mingle and create new friendships during the dinner reception. Plus, it was a great spot for the couple to sneak in and say hello.

Above, was a cluster of globe lighting that created the ultimate romantic environment and the perfect lighting for all night dancing. Creating and executing this wedding with a couple from afar was an exciting and creative inspiring challenge.

Happy ALMOST New Years, Friends!

If you read my goals for 2017, you know that I wanted to make goal setting a priority. That’s why I’m writing to you today. I’m super proud of what I accomplished, I mean everything except two were tackled. Can you guess which ones?! Now while I was thinking about goal setting, I found finding 18 was too difficult. Instead this year I am going for quality over quantity.

This Goal Digger’s 2018 Goals:

  • Self-care and Self-love– Starting off this list with a bang! This one came like a train hitting me. I never wanted to admit it but this is one I rarely prioritize. While wedding season got busy (go us!), I found myself canceling personal time to accomodate last minute appointments and/or burning the midnight oil just to complete a project on time. While I love my work, I want to put me first, get 8 hours of sleep a night and learn to love myself better. This also includes taking the time to exercise, less coffee more water and taking the time to hit pause and reflect.
  • Purpose over Perfect– Do you ever scroll through Instagram and compare yourself? Chasing perfect left me feeling lonely, exhausted and discouraged. This year, I want to stop doing that. I want to share my purpose, my why even if it doesn’t mean it’s perfect. It was hard to acknowledge success. My number might not be as high as other planners but we hit our goal and we worked with 30 incredible couples to create beautiful journeys to an incredible wedding day and marriage ahead.
  • Make a Change– If you know me personally, you know that I have been running the hamster wheel because 1. I am good at it and 2. it is comfortable. It’s always been so easy to chase happiness or just feel settled. Next year, I have HUGE plans for me personally and the business. I’ll be sharing it early 2018.
  • Do Something That Scares Me– Well the above announcement still shakes me in my boots but other than that, building a larger team scares me. Wait, wait! I love my team and have full confidence in them but if I am being completely candid here, I think it’s the fear of me letting go of the business in more ways. I am not the best to delegate but have come a long way this past year. My fabulous assistant, Kathlene, has been working alongside me every Friday working on blog posts and handing admin duties. This year that scary thing was trying something new. Last week I took my first ski lesson and rocked it. Sometimes the thing that scares you the most turns out to be something you’ve always been meant to do.
  • Education– I see 2018 as our greatest year of growth to date but I want to continue growing and learning too as a boss and wedding planner. Last year I had the opportunity to attend workshops to continue to grow in my craft but I often found myself too busy or just saying no. This year I plan on attending one workshop…which is one of the things I am carrying over from 2017 that I did not accomplish.

Whew! What a great list and I can’t wait to start putting these in action for 2018. Are you goal setting? I would love to cheer you on! I am also trying to get better at sharing and would love to add you to my monthly newsletter

Talk to you in the new year! xo

Amanda & Lucas | Whistler Marriage Proposal

Photography Credit: Christine Pienaar Photography

Earlier this year, Lucas reached out to us to help him plan and execute the perfect proposal for his girlfriend (spoiler alert: now fiancé!!!), Amanda. These two people are beyond beautiful and perfect for each other. We are so honored to have been apart of this special proposal for them! Check it out!

How Their Love Story Began as Told by Lucas

“We started dating about a year and a half ago, and I think we both knew quickly into our relationship that we had something special. I am a neurosurgery resident (Amanda likes to practically call me Dr. McDreamy) and she is a practicing dentist, and we met on Tinder, although it almost wasn’t to be. I hadn’t used the application very much after being signed up by some friends, but my one rule was I never “swiped right” on people that only had photos. I liked at least something clever or intriguing in the statement to really peak my interest. However, she is a dentist and had a photo with a surgical mask on. I am also in the medical/surgical realm and forever reason I deemed that enough to investigate further. I’m glad I swiped right.”

How He Asked The Girl of His Dreams

Lucas hired Stephanie on to execute a full proposal in 9 days. He was planning a ski trip to Whistler with his girlfriend Amanda and he wanted to propose but needed the assistance to fully execute it. Lucas had mentioned that one of his favourite dates involved going for dinner and exploring an art exhibit. It was their first time in Whistler so a trip to Lil Wat Cultural Center in Squamish was a must.

It was January 24th, 2017 and after a morning of exploring the city, they arrive at the cultural center. Lucas suggests going in but he desperately needs a coffee before they start. While walking downstairs to the cafe, they hear music coming from the Istken Hall and peek behind the black curtain. Lucas leads Amanda to a rose petal circle with a vinyl sticker quote: OUR FOREVER STARTS NOW with their proposal date. He whispers those four little words and Amanda, in complete shock, says yes! Following the proposal, Christine Pienaar takes the couple out for a mini engagement session while Stephanie flips the room to an elegant table for two with Future Hubby/Future Wifey champagne flutes and bottle of Veuve Cliquot champagne. On her place setting is a calligraphy love letter of everything Lucas shared when on one knee. That forever keepsake!

Take a look at some of our favorite moments of the day!

Stephanie & Dave | Brew Creek Centre Wedding

Brew Creek Centre Wedding, Whistler Wedding, Sweetheart Events, Destination Wedding, Iron Man Winner Weds, Whistler,

It was September and the SHE team was headed off to Whistler for Stephanie and Dave’s Brew Creek Centre Wedding. Not only was this wedding a highlight of 2016 for us but these two beautiful humans were an absolute delight to work with annnnd TODAY is their anniversary!!!!

Love Story told by the bride:

“We met at summer camp in Ontario and after a 20 year hiatus, reconnected on the Big Island of Hawaii before the Ironman World Championships. Dave was doing business in the middle east and travelled for 36 hours to get to Hawaii where Steph was racing, yet they were also celebrating a mutual best friends birthday.

It was love at the finish line! Fast forward four years and on a vacation to Maui after an epic bike ride up the volcano and back down to the beach, Dave proposed with a gorgeous yellow diamond that Steph likes to refer to it as her Forever Pineapple.

We chose to get married in Whistler at Brew Creek Centre because it reminded us of summer camp as kids. Naturally, our wedding planner was like the Councellor who kept us in line. Thanks heavens for Steph!”

Working with Stephanie to coordinate the last details of the big day was so much fun! She always came prepared with enthusiasm but full trust in me and what I could provide to the day and overall experience. To Stephanie and Dave, they were most excited about the marriage that waited for them that day than any detail or decor element which made me love them even more BUT it was still fun to decorate their venue!

The night of the wedding, my team and I borrowed the loose greenery that was needed for the reception tables and created a euculyptus vine wall for the ceremony, added stumps and candles to add an intimate and romantic backdrop to their ceremony. It was a perfect surprise!

The morning of the wedding, Stephanie and her tribe went for a morning run while Dave and his tribe enjoyed a morning basketball game at the cabin. The couple didn’t want a traditional first look so they opted for a casual run in at their cabin (#campfrey) and new home in Whistler instead. After a few moments alone, the couple and their wedding party celebrated with champagne and canapés before heading over to the ceremony.

The ceremony was performed by one of their closest friends and the Man of Honour’s (now fiance) sang as the Bride and her brother (MOH) walked down the aisle. It was one of my all time favourite ceremonies to date! Every element of this wedding screamed Stephanie and Dave and I cannot thank them enough for choosing me as their planner. To be invited into a couple’s life on that special day is an extreme honour. I wish Stephanie and Dave a lifetime of happiness, filled with love, laughter and many warm nights in Maui together!

Enjoy some of my favourites!

Jager Bombs and True Love- Jasmine & Aaron’s Vancouver Rooftop Wedding

vancouver wedding, day of coordination, vancouver wedding planner, sweetheart events, rooftop patio wedding, collective you

A love story that began with $2 Jager shots at the bar over twelve years ago. On the wedding day, the speeches were coming to a close and Aaron got up to speak. He told this story of how the couple met, like it was yesterday. Jasmine and Aaron were in their 3rd year of university and that night (at the bar) Aaron really wanted to start up the conversation, but how? The DJ helped him out by announcing $2 Jagers at the bar. Aaron looked at Jasmine and offered to buy her a drink. The rest is history.

How he asked:

Aaron’s office is connected to a large patio with an incredible view overlooking all of Vancouver (that perfect proposal backdrop). He had asked Jasmine to meet him at work one night and there he popped the question. She said YES! Waiting for the couple back at their apartment, were all their close family and friends to celebrate their recent engagement! He did good!

How they wed:

Jasmine and I first met over coffee at Beaucoup Bakery and I could not wait to begin coordinating this beautiful day. Her vision of exchanging vows in the same spot she said yes with long tables, globe lights above, a gorgeous west coast view on fireworks night was a wedding I could not wait to assist with! The couple not only had a cute love story but wanted to incorporate what they could from it into their big day. The ceremony was set with a lushious greenery arch with white folding chairs for all friends and family. Jasmine’s brother married the couple with a personalized ceremony filled with intimate vows and readings.

Following the ceremony, guests were invited downstairs to another patio where canapes, cocktails and The Collective You was waiting. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour, my team along with vendors, flipped the ceremony space into a u-shaped long table reception. The tables were draped with white linens, rose gold votives, bud vases with delicate florals and single Italian Ruscus stems on the individual napkins. Guests enjoyed a family style meal and love filled speeches. Just as the fireworks began, the couple shared their first dance with everyone circled around them. It was one of those magical moments and the love they have for each other was more evident than ever.

Wishing this couple a lifetime of happiness!
